Come to the New Covenant

Today’s reading is Hebrews 1.

In ancient times, God had many prophets. He gave them visions. He spoke to them in voices. He visited them with angels. He came to them in dreams. With a very few, He spoke face to face. Some were kings, some were priests, some were farmers. Some performed other miracles. Some wrote poems. Some preached sermons. Some accomplished great works for and among God’s people. What a special time it must have been to have mouth pieces of God walking on earth.

However, all that has changed. We have something better. In these last days, God speaks to us by His Son. When we see His Son, we see Him. The apostle John revealed that for us in John 1:17-18: “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known” (ESV). John even revealed Jesus’s own words on the matter: “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9, ESV). On the Mount of Transfiguration, the Father Himself made it clear: “This is my beloved Son,” He declared from the cloud, “listen to Him” (Matthew 17:5, ESV).

Through His Son, God has invited us into a New Covenant. A covenant not based on the blood of bulls and goats, neither taught by the word of angels through prophets. Rather, it is based on the blood of the Son which made purification for our sins and is taught by His Word through His Spirit to His apostles. He is superior to the angels. He has inherited a name greater than theirs. His covenant is better than any prior covenant.

This entire letter, or perhaps we could even call it a sermon, is an invitation into this new covenant. It is an invitation to listen to this newest, latest, and last voice of God. Will you come into the new covenant? Will you come into Christ’s covenant? Why would you linger under any other when you could be in covenant with God’s Son?

Can we help you enter covenant with God through Jesus Christ the Son? If so, leave a message below in the comments.

Tomorrow’s reading is Hebrews 1.
