He Tasted Death for You

Today’s reading is Hebrews 2.

The author of Hebrews makes clear this Son of God he has been writing about is Jesus. Further, Jesus was “crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9, ESV).

For whom did He taste death? For everyone. Do you know who is part of everyone? You are. Praise the Lord!

Jesus tasted death for you. That is, He experienced death on your behalf. In John 8:51-52, Jesus explained that those who keep His word will not see or taste death. In other words, as is often said, “Jesus tasted death so you don’t have to.”

Clearly, the physical death Jesus endured was merely representative of a more fundamental death. We will all die biologically (see Hebrews 9:27). However, we do not have to taste eternal death, the ultimate relational death. Jesus did that on our behalf. The question is will you keep His word?

If we can help you surrender to the word of Jesus letting His death be applied to you so that you might live for Him, let us know in the comments below.

Tomorrow’s reading is Hebrews 2.
